Description DiamondView Tower:

Adjacent to the San Diego Padres’ Petco Park and the neighborhood “Park at the Park,” DimaondView Tower is the first-ever Class-A office building attached to a Major League Baseball park. Its proximity informs the name, identity, and design of the building, from the baseball-inspired supergraphics in the lobby to stacked, set-back office decks emulating stadium bleachers.

Utilitarian Simplicity:
The block-like form of the tower’s envelope was shaped by downtown San Diego’s redevelopment agency’s pre-determined setbacks, view stipulations, consideration of adjacent structures, and the need to maximize leasable office space. Inspired by the heritage of utilitarian simplicity, the team responded to the challenge by adding interest with layers of textures and materials, open common spaces, and flexible floor plans.

Bridging the past with the promise of the future, the tower’s three- and four-story base is a traditional brick warehouse design, typical of its East Village historic home. The modern tower rises above the base with lightweight, transparent glass panels and metalwork, incorporating floor-to-ceiling glass and balconies on every floor to provide spectacular sky-box views of the stadium and the Pacific Ocean beyond.

Ballpark Branded:
The tower offers its occupants and visitors a unique ballpark-branded experience – from the lobby’s dramatic baseball-inspired environmental graphics and color-changing glass wall – to an 11-story-tall flagpole symbolizing a foul pole. In addition to providing 236,711 square feet of office space, the tower includes a range of street-level retail and restaurant spaces and a state-of-the-art penthouse entertainment meeting space designed to allow guests to watch a game from an expansive outdoor deck – replete with fire pit – or entertain indoors amid baseball-themed décor.

Capturing the American Spirit:
As a real pioneering project for the client, the team was challenged with creating an urban experience for local residents and visitors that creates a sense of community and plays into the strong cultural values and American spirit that make the San Diego Padres so popular with their loyal hometown fans. More than just another East Village residential project, the team created a mixed-use building that reflects how people live, work and play. The project is designed to give a 24/7 experience to residents and visitors in the area – whether it’s game day or not.
