Cafeteria

Cafeteria      As part of the master plan for the reworking of the main building of the Technical University in Berlin, the Baupiloten are working on the cafeteria. The cafeteria connects and brings life to two open courtyards of the 19th century listed building. The cafeteria will be remodelled so that it changes its character according to the seasons and the weather conditions to give the customers a sensual awareness of the climatic conditions. Elements such as the light drops, changing seasonal furniture, the seating and bar area alter with the rhythm of the day and year. Through their interaction they create a special atmosphere both in the interior space and the surrounding space, making the cafeteria an optimal place of encounter.

Sheet lightning The light within the cafeteria changes according to the season, the outside temperature and the time of day. In the interior space two parameters affect the light. Firstly, the season determines the colour of the light: the warmer the outside temperature, the cooler the colour of light; the cooler the outside temperature, the warmer the colour of light. Secondly, the time of day determines the brightness of the light. In the exterior space surrounding the cafeteria the same parameters affect the light, but in the reverse way.
